Lauren Shea

Research Professor & Teacher-Educator — American University

Dr. Lauren Shea believes every child deserves a classroom filled with high-quality learning and heartfelt support. As a research professor at American University, she bridges the gap between complex academic research and the joyful reality of the PreK-5 classroom. Lauren’s expertise is rooted in her years as a bilingual teacher and coordinator in a Dual Immersion school. This “boots-on-the-ground” experience shapes her work in curriculum design and media, focusing on language and literacy practices that truly work for young children.

What is a Courage Champion in my world?

To me, it means doing the right thing, even when it is the hardest thing. It is a continual fight to act, even in the face of pushback, for what I believe is right for the children I support and the educators I serve.

Why it matters:

Being a Courage Keeper is essential because I guide and mentor those who are still on the path to learning how to manage and understand their own bravery.
